According to the Asheville GMC dealer, the GMC Terrain gets refreshed styling for 2022, including an updated grille and front bumper, new LED headlights and taillights, updated wheel designs, and revised upholstery. All trims now come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Terrain also picks up a new off-road-focused AT4 trim level.

The 2022 GMC Terrain seats five passengers. Buyers can choose from four trim levels, listed as SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. The 2022 Terrain is motivated by a 1.5-liter turbo-four powerplant good for 170 horses and 203 lb-ft of torque, coupled to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The SLE and SLT models get standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive. The AT4 and Denali come with all-wheel drive. Properly outfitted, the 2022 GMC Terrain has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

Fuel economy is excellent for a model in this class. The 2022 GMC Terrain returns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive.* With all-wheel drive, the Terrain checks in with 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The automotive media are enthusiastic about the 2022 GMC Terrain. Cars.com writes: “The new AT4 trim should appeal to shoppers who want a small SUV with some rugged design cues, and this year’s exterior updates keep the Terrain looking fresh. All in all, it’s still a refined and versatile compact SUV with an easy-to-use multimedia system.”

The base 2022 GMC Terrain SLE trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a six-way manual driver and passenger seat, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, body-colored mirror caps and door handles, heated outside mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning and cruise control. Also standard is a 4.2-inch multi-color driver information display, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a six-speaker stereo system, Bluetooth, HD radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB ports and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The standard Pro Safety package features automatic high-beam headlights, a following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection, and a pre-collision warning and braking system. The Terrain also gets Teen Driver standard.

The range-topping Denali trim includes amenities such as an upgraded suspension, a head-up display, and a seven-speaker Bose premium audio system.

Buyers want assurance that the vehicle they choose is safe to drive. The 2022 GMC Terrain gets outstanding safety scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency gave the Terrain its highest overall safety rating of five stars.
